Skills group makes appeal for examples of how the industry is attracting new talent

January 13, 2025

The Construction Accord Skills Working Group is appealing for examples of how the industry is attracting new talent as part of a new online showcase.

This group is looking for case studies of initiatives carried out by the sector to inspire and encourage young people to follow a career in construction.

The examples will appear in a new “showcase guide” on the Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Build Your Future website that will feature a wide range of talent attraction initiatives from across the country.

Case studies can cover everything from primary school up to further and higher education, with an upper age limit of 25.

Elaine Ellis, Co-Chair of the Skills group, said: “We are committed to helping the Scottish sector attract the talent it needs to create and maintain the built environment of the future.

“As part of this, we want to showcase a whole range of initiatives, whether it is a short insight visit for an hour or two, right up to larger projects delivered over many months.

“We’ve already received some fantastic examples showcasing a wide range of activity, but we’d like to gather more construction and built environment initiatives that demonstrate the many ways that people can get involved.”

Elaine, who is also Skills Planning Manager at Skills Development Scotland, added: “The aim is to show employers and industry stakeholders the great work already being done across Scotland, and use existing examples to help them design and deliver impactful initiatives of their own to attract a diverse talent pool.”

If you would like your initiative to be included, please email elaine.ellis@sds.co.uk who will provide further details and a showcase template.

The closing date for entries is Wednesday 29 January and more information about the launch will be released shortly.
